Portrait of Michele Humphrey, Art Psychotherapist and EMDR practitioner.

Hello, I'm Michele Humphrey

Art Psychotherapist and Trauma Therapist

I am a state registered Art Psychotherapist and EMDR practitioner. I have been practising as a Psychotherapist in a wide range of health, educational, and social care settings since 1999 and became an accredited EMDR practitioner in 2008.

I work from my own therapy room in Shoreham by Sea. The venue includes a waiting room and toilet facilities. It is a 12 minute walk from Shoreham by Sea station and has free street parking nearby. I have annual DBS checks and private practice insurance.

My Experience as an Art Psychotherapist & Trauma Therapist

I work with all age groups. My experience with children and teenagers includes working within the NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, in looked after children services and with adoption organisations. I have also worked within both Primary and Secondary schools as well as a pupil referral unit. This has led to my enhanced understanding of childhood trauma and attachment difficulties and I have a lot of  experience of working with neurodiversity. Having worked in schools before, during and after the Covid pandemic, I have a particular understanding of its impact on the mental health and development of children and teenagers. In my private practice, I have seen a huge increase in young people with anxiety, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive difficulties and school avoidance in recent years.

My experience with adults includes working in many different adult mental health services, a forensic unit and, more recently, in the NHS working with adults who are hospitalised with serious physical health conditions. I am particularly experienced in working with bereavement, with the impact of childhood trauma in adulthood and I have extensive knowledge on the link between neurodiversity and adult mental health.
